| GESICHTER DER STADT WUPPERTAL
(FACES OF THE TOWN WUPPERTAL)
is a work about the most famous
persons who were being born, lived and worked in the valley of the river
Wupper. It is the second part of the series about this county Bergisches
Land (Part 1: Schloß Burg). Are there many to mention I took the
choice of 13 people. Most of them are well known over the frontiers of
the little valley. As this town became important in the last, the 19th
century, I chosed the famous Mono-Railway (Schwebebahn) for a place to
perform a concert. From this vehicle you have a marvellous view to the
most of historic places in the valley. So the scenes behind the windows
of this traffic vehicle may be the faces of the town... After a preparing
phase about 18 months, an old dream came true: My hommage to my birthtown.
And it was a challenge like the old 19th century thinking: Technology makes
everything possible. So this selection of 13 people could only be subjective...
and as the booklet is only in German available today, here is a short summery
of the tracks...
E. Langen: The
inventor of the this traffic vehicle "Schwebebahn", he owned a sugar-plant...
(today Kölner Raffinade Zucker (= sugar))
F. Engels: Owned
a textile-plant in Wuppertal and Manchester (Ermen & Engels), he developed
with Karl Marx the "Communistic-Manifest".
Eduard von-der-Heydt: A
banker with a great love to collect Asian art, an important art museum
he founded in Wuppertal (compare Ludwig in Cologne...). |
|
W. Dörpfeld: He
is the one founder of modern archaeology, he works with Heinrich Schliemann
in Troy, Turkey and restore every site in Greece the ancient world is famous
for.
J. C. Fuhlrott: He
discovered the "Neanderthaler", one of the primary form of human sapiens.
The "Neandertal" is the valley (= Tal) of the river Düssel, which
gave Düsseldorf its name. And Joachim Neander is an old sacral-song
writer...
P. Bausch:
A modern dancer, she is still
living and have an great success in the U.S.
Saint Laurentius: The
church-patron of the biggest Catholic church in Wuppertal. He was burned
in Rome...
A. Kolping: The
"founder" of the "Kolping-Werk", a world-wide organisation for young people...,
the first unit was founded in Wuppertal... F. Sauerbruch: The surgeon,
who developed the first lungs operation.
E. Eller: A
Protestant who fight against the Catholic church and founded a little town
which is nowadays a part of Wuppertal. The City Wuppertal was formed by
6 villages in 1929...
Tuffi: The
famous little elephant who jumped out of the "Schwebebahn" into the river
"Wupper", where the traffic vehicle is traffic vehicle is driving above.
After this part is a short poem inspired by the next person:
E.L.Schüler: A
Jewish lyric. She wrote poems, dramas and lyric in a very special way.
She had to escape to Jerusalem in the NS-time...
F. Bayer: Today
is one of the famous chemistry organisation ("Aspirin") around the world.
The story began in this valley (Tal) of the Wupper... |
